Funding Available For Environmental Research And Development

The Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) is seeking to fund environmental research and development in the Environmental Restoration program area.

SERDP invests across the broad spectrum of basic and applied research, as well as advanced technology development. The development and application of innovative environmental technologies will reduce the costs, environmental risks, and time required to resolve environmental problems while, at the same time, enhancing and sustaining military readiness.

The Environmental Restoration program area focuses on remediating and managing lands on current and former military installations that are impacted by chemicals of concern. It supports the development of innovative technologies to characterize, remediate, and scientifically manage chemicals of concern in soil, sediments, groundwater, surface water, and wastewater. SERDP is requesting proposals that respond to the following focused Statements of Need (SONs) in Environmental Restoration:

• Fate, Transport, and Treatment of Microplastics Impacted with PFAS in the Environment
• Improved Understanding of Physical-Chemical Properties of PFAS to Support Assessments of PFAS Fate and Transport in Environmental Systems and Biota
• Treatment of PFAS-Impacted Matrices

Proposals responding to the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 SON will be selected through a competitive process. All pre-proposals are due to SERDP January 9, 2024 by 2:00 p.m. ET. The SONs and detailed instructions are available on the SERDP website

Webinar for the SERDP Solicitations: SERDP Executive Director Dr. Kimberly Spangler, Deputy Director Dr. Andrea Leeson, and the SERDP Program Managers will conduct a webinar “SERDP Funding Opportunities” in mid-November. This briefing will offer valuable information for those interested in new SERDP funding opportunities. During the webinar, participants may ask questions about the funding process, the current SERDP solicitations, and the proposal submission process.
